Meet Your Mr. Leo: Leo Samman Shrestha

LEO Samman Shrestha
-Mr. Leo Nepal 2024 (Leo Club of Kathmandu Atal Pingalasthan)

Every great journey begins with a dream; one small spark of belief that grows into a flame of purpose. For me, being crowned Mr. Leo Nepal 2024 was not just about holding a title; it was a testimony to passion, determination, and the spirit to make a change in myself and the society.

To represent my homeclub “LCK Atal Pingalasthan” and my district “LDC 325 M” on a national stage was more than glory. It was a privilege that carried both pride and duty. It was a life-changing experience. It shaped me into a stronger individual, reminded me of the power of community, and gave me the conviction that true leadership begins from within.

Every moment felt monumental. Each round challenged me, not just my skills, but also the essence of who I truly was. From the ramp walk to the talent showcase, from teamwork challenges to thought-provoking questions, every stage demanded authenticity, courage, and a clear sense of purpose. For me, it was never about perfection, it was about presence.

There were moments of doubt, moments when my heart raced and my mind questioned my every step. But with each challenge, I discovered resilience I didn’t know I had, and a deeper understanding of what it means to lead with purpose. This competition was not just about winning a crown, it was about embracing the lessons that come with pushing boundaries, stepping into the unknown, and expressing my authentic self. It was about telling my story as a Leo, connecting with those around me, and inspiring others through my journey.

The guidance and wisdom from my club, district and multiple-district leaders served as my compass, teaching me that true leadership is not about recognition, but about inspiring others, lifting them up, and leaving a lasting positive impact. Engaging in community projects reinforced why I am a Leo; it was in serving, guiding, helping, and contributing to the society that I found the deepest joy, the truest purpose, and a fulfillment no crown could ever replicate.

Through this journey, I realized that real leadership begins with heart, action, and the commitment to make a difference. After the Crown ,it marked the beginning of a far greater responsibility. The title brought with it, the duty to lead by example, inspire young Leos, and dedicate myself wholeheartedly to meaningful service. Together, I embraced a vision that is both simple and powerful:

I am deeply grateful to my home club; My Atal Family, LDC 325 M, Leo Multiple District 325 Nepal, my always supporting friends and families and the entire Leos all around for trusting me and giving me this platform. Here’s to dreaming without limits, serving without hesitation, and creating an impact that resonates for generations to come.

Fellowship and Networking

Fellowship and Networking

We believe in the power of fellowship and global connectivity. Our members actively participate in a wide range of events organized within Leo Multiple District Council 325, national, and international levels, fostering meaningful relationships and expanding their horizons.

We engage in inter-club and intra-district activities, collaborating with fellow Leos to share ideas, resources, and experiences. Our presence extends to global Leo and Lions events, seminars, and award functions, where we connect with passionate individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds. These interactions provide invaluable opportunities to learn best practices, gain fresh perspectives, and celebrate shared achievements.

Through these engagements, our members build a robust network of friends, mentors, and partners from around the nation and the world. This global fellowship not only strengthens our collective impact but also enriches personal growth, inspiring innovation and unity in service.

We don’t just attend events we build bridges, nurture lifelong connections, and create a truly international family dedicated to leadership and compassion.

Training and Youth Empowerment

Training and Youth Empowerment

The Leo Club of Kathmandu Atal Pingalasthan is dedicated to empowering youth by providing practical, hands-on training that prepares them for real world challenges and opportunities. Our training programs are carefully designed to build confidence, competence, and leadership.

We organize a variety of skill-based training sessions covering areas such as public speaking, project management, teamwork, stock market, effective communication and many more. These workshops are designed to be interactive and directly applicable to both personal and professional growth.

Through participation in youth camps and collaborative activities, young members learn to embrace challenges, think critically, and develop a strong sense of responsibility.

A core aspect of our empowerment initiative involves encouraging youth to take initiative from planning and executing events to approaching potential sponsors and managing resources. By entrusting them with real responsibilities and guiding them through hands-on projects, we enable them to become confident leaders, innovative problem-solvers, and active contributors to society.

Our goal is not only to involve youth in service but to inspire them to lead it ,transforming enthusiasm into impact, and ideas into action. Through these targeted programs, we don’t just teach skills, we build capable, confident, and forward-thinking leaders ready to excel in diverse fields.

Child and Education Support

Child and Education Support

We undertake a thoughtful and multi-faceted approach to support the education and well-being of children, recognizing that true empowerment comes from both practical resources and heartfelt encouragement.

Stationery Distribution: We provide essential school supplies, notebooks, pens, pencils, geometry sets, and bags to students from underprivileged backgrounds. This simple yet critical support ensures that lack of materials never becomes a barrier to a child’s learning.

Library Setup: Understanding the role of reading in shaping young minds, we establish and replenish libraries in resource limited schools and places. We donate books, shelves, and reading materials tailored to different age groups and interests, creating inviting spaces that foster curiosity and a love for learning.

Scholarship Support: To help reduce the financial burden on families and prevent bright students from dropping out, we offer scholarship assistance. This support covers tuition fees, exam fees, and other educational expenses, enabling deserving students to pursue their academic goals without interruption.

Festive Joy: Dashain Clothes Distribution: During Dashain, a time of celebration and renewal, we distribute new clothes to children who might otherwise go without. This initiative spreads festive joy, reinforces cultural belonging, and allows every child to take part in the festivities with dignity and happiness.

Reading Materials and School Uniforms: We supplement classroom learning by providing subject-specific books, storybooks, and reference materials. Additionally, we distribute school uniforms to promote a sense of equality, discipline, and pride among students, helping them focus on their studies rather than socioeconomic differences.

Through these concerted efforts, we don’t just give resources, we nurture confidence, inspire ambition, and show every child that their community believes in their potential.

Community Development

Community Development

The Leo Club of Kathmandu Atal Pingalasthan is deeply committed to holistic community development, focusing on supporting the most vulnerable members of society through targeted, compassionate initiatives.

We visit old age homes to spend time with residents, often organizing dinner or lunch programs to share a meal together. and provide essential supplies, ensuring they feel valued and cared for.

Our hunger relief programs address immediate food insecurity by distributing nutritious meals and dry food packages to underserved communities and individuals facing economic hardship.

During the harsh winter months, we organize warm clothing distribution drives, providing coats, blankets, and other necessities to protect those in need from the cold. We also extend dedicated support to cancer patients, offering financial assistance, emotional encouragement, and care packages to help ease their journey.

Additionally, we distribute essential item such as hygiene kits, educational materials, and daily necessities to marginalized families, empowering them to meet basic needs with dignity.

Each initiative is designed not only to provide immediate relief but also to foster hope, resilience, and a sense of shared humanity. Through these efforts, we strive to build a more inclusive, compassionate, and supportive community.

Spreading Our Legacy: A Member’s Journey to Presidency

Spreading Our Legacy: A Member’s Journey to Presidency

LEO Ayan Gautam
-Original President (LEO Club of Kathmandu Atal Indrawati)

It is with immense gratitude and pride that I reflect upon my journey with an organization that has been far more than a club; it has been my family. What began as casual, random meetups organically evolved into a profound sense of brotherhood and shared purpose.

Becoming a member of the Atal Family was a privilege, and I remain perpetually grateful to my mentors, brothers, and friends for their unwavering guidance, love, and support.
My Leo journey can be summarized as a progression from a general member to the founding President of a new chapter . This path has now afforded me the distinct opportunity to serve within a brother club of LCK Atal Pingalasthan, allowing me to contribute as a member of the extended Atal Family.

I am deeply mindful of the adage that “with great power comes great responsibility.” I have been entrusted with the significant honor of elevating the esteemed name of the Atal Family and the broader Leo community in my capacity as the original President of the Leo Club of Kathmandu Atal Indrawati.

A special mention must be made to all the Lion Mothers (Aamas) for their constant affection and care. Furthermore, any discussion of my Leo journey would be incomplete without acknowledging my brother and mentor, Leo Prabesh Kumar Karki. His exemplary guidance and steadfast support were instrumental in shaping my personal and leadership development. Under his mentorship, I evolved from a recent high school graduate into an individual capable of public speaking and organizing events for a considerable audience. The progression from merely attending events to presiding over them has been both an exciting and deeply rewarding personal achievement.

Thank you, Leo Club of Kathmandu Atal Pingalasthan, for the transformative opportunities you have provided.

Environment

Environment

Our environmental work is both regular and symbolic. Every year, on July 1st, we mark the beginning of our new leadership tenure by organizing a tree plantation drive, symbolizing our commitment to growth and service for the year ahead.

Our commitment continues personally through our “One Tree” campaign, where every member plants a sapling on their birthday or special occasion, turning individual celebration into a lasting gift to the environment.

Beyond planting, we actively combat urban pollution by organizing cleanliness drives along the Bagmati riverbanks, in public parks, and around heritage sites. We combine this action with awareness workshops in communities and schools, teaching practical waste management and the importance of conserving our local ecosystem.

Through these hands-on projects, we don’t just talk about change, we plant it, clean it, and grow it, fostering a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Kathmandu. We are actively working to create a greener, cleaner, and more beautiful space for everyone.

He always says: “I was a Boy Now I am a Leo.”

He always says: I was a Boy Now I am a Leo.”

Not every journey begins with a dream some begin with a push, a nudge, or simply a moment that doesn’t look important at first. For Leo Prabesh Kumar Karki, the path into Leoism started off quiet, uncertain, and almost accidental.

Back in 2018/19, he first stepped into the Leo movement through the Leo Club of Kathmandu Pingalasthan back then he didn’t know much about what Leo was, or what impact it was about to make in his life and every weekend. First program he attended as a Leo was a Stationery Distribution for underprivileged children in Lalitpur, which sounds pretty simple in surface handing out notebooks, click a few photos, and then closing of the program. However that moment he saw gratitude in the eyes of those children, holding pencils as if they were treasures, made him emotionally rich. That day indeed created an everlasting impression on him. What started as a small act of service became a spark of purpose.

And here comes the turns and twist The Leo Club of Kathmandu Pingalasthan dissolved not long after. For many, that would have been the end of the journey however for him, it was only the beginning. “Like one door closing as another creak opens”, the chartering of the Leo Club of Kathmandu Atal Pingalasthan.

He became the Original Secretary of the newly chartered club. The role sounded a big deal whereas as he was just figuring things out. Messy notebooks, wavering confidence, and his knowledge of Leo almost nonexistent. But here lies the repercussion of Leoism, despite all of that his peers never considered it as his weakness. Being under guidance, encouragement led to learning slowly, task by task, he grew. One of his earliest projects with Atal Pingalasthan was a community clean-up. On the scheduled day, heavy rainfall caused issue nevertheless five members squeezed under a single umbrella, laughing as they picked up trash in the rain. For him, it became one of his first big lessons: service is never about perfect conditions; it’s about unwavering spirit.

Moving forward with his experience in his leo journey, he went on to serve as Vice President and later President of his club. Under his leadership, the club became a vibrant force for service and change. From flood relief drives to orphanage adoption, from dog vaccinations to establishing libraries the impact came across as visible, meaningful, and lasting. His dedication was soon recognized across the district. He took on roles such as Region Coordinator, GMT Coordinator, and eventually became District Vice President. Each role carried more responsibility, but he embraced them with humility, determination, and a heart that had always been about service above self.

Fast forward to today, he is the District President of Leo District Council 325 M, Nepal, for the Lionistic Year 2025/26. His chosen theme “Loud and Proud” is not just a slogan instead story in three words.
Loud, because service must be visible, bold, and fearless.
Proud, because being a Leo is not just a role it’s an identity to celebrate.

For every new Leo who feels uncertain or overwhelmed, his story carries a message: it’s okay to begin clueless. Your blank page is your strength. Leoism will give you the ink, the tools, and the mentors to write a story you never imagined possible.
From Stationery Distribution to District Presidency, this is the journey of Leo Prabesh Kumar Karki a journey written not just in words, but in service, spirit, and pride.
